Stop being so productive.
I can’t believe I’m saying this either. I love being more efficient with everyday tasks and crossing things off my to do list.
But after talking to lots of working moms one-on-one, I’ve realized this:
We’re too focused on being productive at every moment.
Being productive looks like not being able to sit down to just watch a movie with your kids or partner.
Being productive looks like running around like a crazy person trying to clean up and cross things off your list after the kids are in bed.
Being productive means not allowing yourself any down time.
Being productive means feeling guilty when you sit down to just read a book.
It means in every “free” moment, you’re wondering “What could I be doing right now? Laundry, prepping meals, tidying up?”
No. This has to stop.
I’m sure you’ve noticed what happens when you keep up this “productivity.” You burn out.
You’re tired. You feel like you can’t do another darn thing.
You multitask when you should be paying attention to those you love.
And worst of all, you are so distracted by being “productive” that you’re focused on all the wrong things.
We’re so busy being productive that we don’t take the time to actually reflect on what we spend our time on. Because that would mean sitting still.
Don’t buy that book to be smarter, faster, better or whatever is on your list.
Just pause. Take a breath. Leave the laundry for a few more minutes.
Your mind and body will thank you.
