There is a saying in my house about shoes. When I need a little motivation, either I or my husband will remind me to wear my kick ass boots.
It all started almost 5 years ago when I started to dance. I was late to dancing, playing only sports growing up, but I am truly in love with dance. (Any other So You Think You Can Dance watchers out there? Every time I watch that show I really do think I can dance like that!) Anyway, so it was the first time in class I was able to wear boots. And I felt amazing. I felt tall. I felt beautiful. I felt bold. I felt strong. I felt seen. I felt all the things I want to feel every moment of every day. It was incredible.
I saw this quote on a napkin recently and it reminded me how I feel when I metaphorically (and literately) wear my kick ass boots. I have other shoes that I wear outside of dance that help me embody this feeling. I mean anything with a heel, specifically the shoes pictured above that happen to be my wedding shoes and happen to be the subject of a hilarious story I wrote about here if you have the time. There is something about wearing things you feel good in that gives your confidence a boost. When I have a big meeting or need to have a hard conversation with a co-worker or even family member, I take a moment to step mentally into my boots. It is just a little mind game, my little secret, to give myself the extra motivation I need to push through.
So if you see me this week, I’ll be rocking my boots! Do you too have a little secret that gives you the strength to conquer the world? Do tell!
