Let. It. Go. Such simple words with such a big meaning, and a great reminder for me recently. Lately I feel I have all these plans and ideas and I want to chase them all down and accomplish them, now. And when I don’t I feel guilty and I am finding that I carry that guilt around with me all day, which does me no good. And in an effort to lead a healthy life I decided to finally try something to help me let things go – meditation.
When I think of letting go I do think of meditation, likely because almost everything I am reading or listening to these days talks about it. From Arianna Huffington’s book Thrive, to Hal Elrod in his recent interview on The Jess Lively show, to even my own business partner Tiffany – everyone is raving about the emotional and health benefits of meditating. And from what I hear, I do think meditation would help me let go of emotions that I am holding on to that are weighing me down, and would help center my thoughts for a productive day. I think it would also help me with patience and with being calm in my daily life. So, I tried it.
I downloaded the app Tiffany recommends in a previous post, Stop, Breathe & Think. I sat on my bed and walked through the steps on the screen until the app identified a few different meditations that would fit my current mood. I chose a 5 minute gratitude meditation and pressed play. After the five minutes, I practically jumped off the bed with excitement because I had taken the first step. I had meditated for five minutes! I felt calm and excited, and my thoughts were on gratitude. I did it!
My goal is to add meditation into my morning routine at least once or twice a week for now, with the hopes of adding more days in the future. There are many things in life that one cannot control, and I am hopeful meditation will help me let it go more quickly and confidently. Wish me luck!
Who else has tools that help them let things go? Anyone using mediation? How is the process for you?
