Happy Monday, friends!
This quote has stuck with me day after day. I continue to think about it. It’s so easy to make comparisons of yourself to other people. If I only had that, or if I was able to travel there, or if I could have 1 million followers, things would be better. Well, if there’s one thing I’ve learned about the last year or so, it’s that we each have a lot already. I don’t mean stuff, although you and I both probably have too much of that too! My life is far from perfect and it never will be, but if I nurture it like a plant, it only keeps getting better.
For example, my husband and I have been debating a big cross country move for years. We talk about what will be better when we move. The weather will be better (warmer!), the food and restaurants will be so much better. It will be beautiful there and have more modern architecture. We will have a better work/life balance. But, you know what? We live in a pretty great place in the DC area. There is a beautiful and striking city with lots of restaurants and culture right in our backyard. We have fantastic diversity in our area which is something important to us as the girls grow up. We can afford a pretty great house in the suburbs here. We have four seasons which means we get to enjoy Summer, see leaves change and pick apples in the Fall, teach our girls to make snow angels and sled in the Winter (the bright side of Winter because I am not a fan!), and watch the cherry blossoms bloom each year. We have family within driving distance that are involved in our girls lives. We have great friends nearby. So maybe we should fully appreciate what we have here vs. dreaming about some phantom life that would never actually exist. The more effort we put into enjoying what we have and making the best of where we are, the less attractive it looks to go anywhere else.
Maybe we will never make a big move, but for now, I am going to water my life right here and I hope you do too.
