Oh another beautiful Monday is here! And today let’s talk about cracks.
I’m in the midst of Daring Greatly by Brene Brown and this quote got me thinking about cracks. A crack lets light in. It can also let in water and air and bugs and whatever else can fit through it. But, at a minimum, it lets light in. When we go through challenging moments, I will go out on a limb and say it is natural to put up a wall, or how some would phrase it, to put your guard up. You go into a protective mode. Nothing comes in, and nothing comes out.
When you have a wall up, how can you be touched by the light on the other side of the wall; and how can your amazingness flow to others? It can’t. It isn’t possible. You stay protected but closed off. There is no growth, no love, no goodness.
I’ve had walls up throughout my life for various reasons – teenage heartbreak, the loss of a few amazing grandparents, the end of my parents marriage. I can create walls so easily sometimes I hardly recognize it is happening until the wall is already there and I am on the other side alone and confused. But even in the best of walls there is a crack. The light is trying to shine in and touch you.
This week, let’s let the light in. Break down the wall, even just a little bit. Reach out to a friend. Share your story. Let them tell you theirs. Let’s let the light in!!
