Gotta love Monday’s! This Monday Hal Elrod’s chapter on affirmations in his book The Miracle Morning has me thinking about all the things I tell myself throughout the day. I start off on a positive note, thanks to The Five Minute Journal which has you write an “I am” statement each morning. But as the day progresses I do start to tell myself things that aren’t really positive, such as “you won’t have the time to finish that” or “you know you will forget about that” or “why did you even think this was a good outfit for this meeting”? How do my thoughts get negative throughout the day when my affirmations start out so positive?!
In his chapter on affirmations, Hal emphasizes the importance of changing how we speak to ourselves. Everything should be positive, encouraging, and motivating. In thinking about this I recalled my very first marathon, pictured above, in which I told myself such positive things to help me make it to the finish line. Why could I do it then, and not in the everyday?!
So, today I challenge both you and I to stop the negative statements and replace them with something positive. Try it with the first statement that enters your mind today that isn’t inspiring, and tell yourself something motivating instead!
We are all awesome. We just need to believe we are. And that starts today!
