There is only so long you can resist the temptation of the office snack bins. Not all snacks are healthy. Not all companies can be like the Facebook and Google’s of the world offering free lunch and unlimited, amazing snacks. Some companies must get by with chips-a-hoy and trail mix. That is the case at the company I work for. The snacks are sub-par.
I recently caved and went for a bag of Chips Ahoy! cookies. I really, really wanted a cookie. A bag full of mini cookies was easier then walking down to one of the many chain restaurants where I work, and it was also free. I like free. And nothing against Chips Ahoy! but the cookies were awful. They didn’t really have a taste. They were dry and just all together gross. I gifted it to a co-worker who didn’t seem to mind the quality.
Is it just me?! Am I just too particular that I wonder why I cannot work at a company that values kettle chips, kale chips and fresh produce? Maybe, and I’m cool with that.
A few months ago we talked about healthy office snacks, which is generally what I try to do. This way I have what I want and I am not tempted by the office snacks. This day however I was behind on bringing in snacks and found myself with a desk drawer that was absent of snacks.
So, what do you do when you have no snacks, you don’t like your office options, and you don’t want to pay for a snack?
Have a glass of water. Seriously. Water is completely underrated and does help give you that boost of energy you may need to get through the day.
Go for a walk. Find the energy to leave your desk and go outside. It helps! Plus, you may realize you actually aren’t hungry, and you may have just needed a break.
If you’ve tried both of these things and you still really need a snack, well, you know your options. You enjoy your office snack of choice, you pay for a snack or you see what your friend has in his or her cube. And then you make an appointment to go shopping for better snacks.
What do you do when you need a snack and don’t like your options?!
